Is your agent answering from the right knowledge?

The problem

AI agents can retrieve information without knowing whether it's the information they should use.

Ordinary retrieval finds the most similar document. It doesn't tell you whether that document is still valid, whether a more authoritative source disagrees with it, whether two current sources contradict each other, or whether the content is even allowed for this audience. When an agent answers from stale, conflicting or restricted knowledge, the result can look confident and still be wrong — and afterwards, nobody can easily explain why the agent used what it used.

An example

A customer asks their energy provider's agent:

"I have a fixed energy contract. Can I switch to a dynamic one?"

A correct answer depends on several things at once: whether dynamic contracts exist and what they involve, whether an active fixed contract can be changed and under what conditions, which contract this specific customer actually has, which version of that rule is currently in force, and whether an internal procedure describing the switch is even meant to be shown to a customer.

If the rule about switching expired last month, the agent shouldn't treat it as current. If two equally authoritative rules disagree, the agent shouldn't silently pick one. If the customer's contract type isn't verified, their contract-specific details shouldn't be used just because the question mentions an account. And if the evidence genuinely isn't there, saying so is a valid answer.

Alinea sits between the company's knowledge and the company's agent to make exactly these calls, and to show its work.

Where Alinea fits

Alinea is a trusted knowledge layer for company AI agents. It doesn't replace your CMS or KMS, and it doesn't write the answer.

Given a question and the context your system already trusts (who's asking, for what purpose, for which audience), Alinea looks at candidate knowledge from your existing sources and decides, deterministically, what's eligible for that exact use — checking whether it's still valid, which source is authoritative, whether sources conflict, and whether this audience is allowed to see it. It returns the eligible knowledge with its sources and the reasons it applies, or it says plainly that it can't resolve the question safely.

Your agent still writes the final answer, in its own words, and can still call your CRM or any other tool it needs. Alinea only answers the knowledge-eligibility question in between.
